On the day I was born, the doctors told my mom and dad that I would never be able to walk, speak, see or eat on my own.  Now, at 8 years old and in third grade, I have shown incredible development in all of these areas!  I was born with several brain malformations.  These malformations caused me to develop Hydrocephalus - a condition where extra cerebral spinal fluid doesn't drain into my body correctly and builds up in my brain, causing severe pressure and damage.  I have a shunt installed that helps the fluid drain, but the damage was already done to my brain.

Currently, we are utilizing the best treatments for Sam to help promote normal development, including  7 hours a week of behavioral therapy, PT, and Speech Therapies.  And through these therapies, we have seen Sam communicating through basic verbal commands and some sign language, become an independent walker 2 years ago, identify his colors, and jam out to his guitar everyday!!  He is even starting to enjoy his 2 sisters, although picking on them is still a preferred behavior! We are hosting this fundraiser as a way to raise awareness in our community about Sam's condition and his continued growth and development - and to raise finances to keep up with Sam's expensive therapies, medical equipment and his very pricey, but important, seizure medicine.  All proceeds from this event will help fund these extreme costs and keep Sam on the developing as he is now!!
